Treatment Plans
Pain Treatments
It is our mission to help our patients reduce their pain and better manage it. It is critical for our patients not to be limited by their condition in order to live fully. Many individuals are limited with their daily activity and unable to fully enjoy their lives. Based on your individual needs and goals, your provider will establish a treatment plan that may include (or be combined):
A pain specialist will be able to determine the appropriate medication regimen that will safely provide the chronic pain patient with effective relief. The specialist will take a comprehensive assessment of your pain and you current prescriptions and any underlying health conditions and develop a medication treatment plan. We have treatment locations in MD, PA, and VA.
Spinal Cord Stimulation is an excellent modality to treat chronic neuropathic (nerve-related) pain which has not responded to alternative treatment options which include medications, physical therapy, chiropractic therapy, injection therapy, and/ or surgery. The spinal cord stimulator blocks pain transmission to the brain and replaces it with a parasthesia (tingling sensation). The stimulator is initially placed on a trial basis for 5 days and if the patient responds well during the trial then the permanent device will be implanted.
Injection therapy is a minimally invasive treatment used to treat acute and chronic pain. A non-surgical treatment, many patients successfully experience relief from their pain symptoms.
The Vertiflex treatment device is a progressive innovation used to treat lumbar spinal stenosis. Requiring a minimally invasive procedure, the Vertiflex implant restores the space between the vertebrae, lifting pressure from the compressed nerves in the spinal canal.

Back Pain
Back pain can make it difficult to perform daily functions. The pain can affect bending, twisting, lifting, walking, standing, sitting and sleeping. Most back pain is acute (short-term), lasting a few days to a few weeks. Home remedies, such as resting, ice and heat, and over-the-counter medications can help. Chronic back pain is defined as pain that lasts for 12 weeks or more, even after the underlying cause or injury has been treated.

Spine surgery is performed to eliminate chronic back and/or extremity pain. In some cases the level of pain doesn't improve post-surgery, or even worsens. There are many reasons that a surgery may be unsuccessful. Factors that can contribute to failed spine surgery include smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, and non-adherence to the post-surgical rehabilitation plan, but every patient's situation is different.
